Dihamri Marine Reserve

The Dihamri Marine Reserve is a protected area along the northern coast of Socotra, and has amazing landscapes both under and above the water. The desert landscape is covered in blood-red rocks, orange and white sand, the beach is blanketed with layer upon layer of eroded coral, and the reef directly off the coast is striking and unspoiled. On the beach, it is possible to pitch a tent just a few meters from the waterline, and buy fresh barracuda and grouper from local fishermen. As the sky is completely free of light pollution, it is the perfect place for stargazing. But you can also go fishing by boat. This area is one of the best diving and snorkeling sites, and home to one of the most abundant coral reefs in the archipelago. While swimming and diving, you can see many marine animals, such as parrotfish, stingrays, sea urchins and much more. Furthermore, the marine environment of Di Hamri is very diverse, with some species of Acropora palifera and Rhincodon fish, which are rare worldwide and found only in Socotra.
