Kalopanagiotis

Kalopanagiotis is located in the Troodos Mountains, in the Marathasa Valley, in the area of Nicosia. The village features cobbled streets and footpaths, chapels and churches, and is characterized by tiled roof houses, balconies, courtyards and shady vine trees, and surrounded by the verdant greenery of the Setrachos Valley. It is one of the most charming tourist resorts on the island, ideal for agrotourism due to its sulphureous springs, traditional architecture and panoramic views of the valley and peaceful surroundings. The Monastery of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kalopanagiotis, and includes three Byzantine churches with frescoes from the 9th and 15th centuries, all of them well preserved. Additional attractions of interest include the Venetian Bridge and the Kykko Watermill. The bridge, built in the 16th century from local stone, was until recently the only link between the village and the monastery. The watermill has been listed as a Cultural Heritage Monument by the Cypriot Department of Antiquities, and is an impressive site typical of the pre-industrial architectural era.
