Maracas Bay

Maracas Bay is a sandy beach bay on the island of Trinidad. It is situated on the north side of the island, about an hour's mountainous road drive from the capital, Port of Spain, on the North Coast Road. In contrast to many of Trinidad's northern beaches, Maracas Bay is sheltered by a deep bay. This is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches on the island of Trinidad. White sands, palm trees and blue-green waters attract beach lovers to this 2 km long, crescent-shaped stretch of beach. Tumbling waves averaging 1 meter in height provide an ideal location for body or board surfing. Three rivers flow into the western end of the bay, two are seasonal and the third, the Maracas River, is perennial. There is also a small fishing village at the western end of the bay.
