Baganara Island

Baganara Island on the Essequibo River is a small island where you will find the Baganara Island Resort, located 8 km from Bartica. The exotic island paradise is one of Guyana's true gems. Tranquil, exotic and stunning are the words that best describe this rainforest resort on the banks of the Essequibo River. On this 187-hectare private island, you can discover wonders on a nature walk or kayak through small streams under the majestic canopy of the forest. The area is also a very popular fishing spot. Bartica town lies on the left bank of the Essequibo River at the confluence of the Cuyuni and Mazaruni Rivers with the Essequibo River. Regarded as the "Gateway to the Interior", the town is the base for gold and diamond miners working in the bush. To the north of Bartica are the ruins of the Dutch fortress of Kyk-Over-Al, the former seat of government of the county of Essequibo. Near the town lies the beautiful Marshall Falls.
