Turmi is a southwest Ethiopian market town. It is located at an elevation of 925 meters above sea level in the Debub Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region. It has a weekly market on Mondays and is home to many Hamer people. One of the products available at this market is the carved gourds that are used by the local women as their shopping bags. Turmi is also known for its traditional dances and the Jumping of the Bulls. In 2005, Turmi hosted the Global Pastors' Conference, the largest meeting of its kind. Some 200 pastors, government representatives, UN and donor organizations from 23 countries on four continents attended. Participants discussed common issues and possible strategies to help them continue to live and work in a changing world.
