Arbore lies in southern Ethiopia, near the border with Kenya. It is the site of the Stephanie Wildlife Reserve, also known as the Chelbi Wildlife Reserve. The reserve covers an area of 4212 km2 around Lake Chew Bahir, also known as Lake Chelbi, and parts of the watersheds of the Woito and Segen rivers, which feed into the lake. The reserve was established in 1973. It is bounded by the Kenyan border to the south, the Borana National Park to the east, and the Murle Controlled Hunting Area to the west.
