Soufriere Bay

The wide, protected area of Soufrière Bay, near the southern tip of the island, is Dominica's most popular diving spot, and also one of the best in the Caribbean. Submerged in the pristine sea, the volcanic crater is home to exciting rock formations, pinnacles and walls, as well as dozens of species of fish and delicate sea fans. This bay is the most picturesque on the island, both under and above the water. Here you will find the Soufriere-Scott's Head Marine Reserve, which includes the villages of Scott's Head and Soufrière, as far as Anse Bateau, near the village of Pointe Michel. Because of the nature of the reef, the SSMR is home to a number of rare and unusual organisms that occur in relatively high numbers in the area. Both professional and amateur underwater divers and photographers often come back to the area again and again. The Scotts Head peninsula towers above it, with a hiking trail leading from the bay to its summit. From there, the panorama extends for miles along the southwest coast of Dominica, all the way to Martinique on the horizon.
