Santa Rita

As the first hotel in the Boca Tapada area, the Laguna del Lagarto Lodge in Santa Rita is a pioneer in tourism in the region. The area is home to rainforests, marshes, birds, alligators and simple, friendly people. The lodge is surrounded by lagoons, wetlands and its own tropical rainforest reserve, which is home to hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects. There are many different kinds of activities in the area, for example, you can either spend the whole day in the lodge's private reserve, or book a birding tour with a professional local guide, who not only knows the species, but also where to see them best. You can also explore the San Carlos River by boat to its mouth, where it joins the San Juan River. The 1,250 hectares of virgin tropical rainforest are home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, 350 different bird species have been counted, including the Great Green Macaw.
