Colombia is a country located mainly in South America, with island territories in North America. For biodiversity, Colombia is one of the megadiverse countries, number one for bird species. It is the most biodiverse country on the planet, with the highest proportion of species by area and highest endemism of all countries. Colombia is home to about 10% of the Earth's species, including more than 1,900 species of birds, which is more than Europe and North America combined, and home to 10% of the world's mammals, 14% of the world's amphibians and 18% of the world's birds. In terms of plants, there are 40,000 to 45,000 plant species in the country, which represents 10-20% of all global species. About 456 mammal species have been reported in Colombia, of which about 22% are endangered or critically endangered. The country has the highest number of land mammal species in the world, including the Spectacled Bear, the Southern Tamandua, Coppery Titi Monkey, the West Indian Manatee, Black-Mantled Tamarin, the Three-Striped Night Monkey, the Hoffmann's Two-Toed Sloth and the Jaguarundi. Bird species include the White-Throated Toucan, the Channel-Billed Toucan, the Emerald Toucanet, the Helmeted Curassow, the Tunki, the Rufous-Tailed Jacamar, the Green Jay and the Tree Swallow among others. The national bird of the country is the Andean Condor. It is one of the largest birds on Earth, with a wingspan of 274-310 cm, males weighing 11-15 kg and females 7.5-11 kg, but its total length can vary between 117-135 cm.
