Phuentsholing

Phuentsholing is a border town in the southern part of Bhutan and the administrative headquarters of Chukha District. Phuentsholing, the gateway of the land of thunder dragons, is often regarded as the home of the kings and queens of the Himalayan Kingdom. At an altitude of just 300 meters, this Bhutanese trading center lies at the foot of the Himalayas, next to the Indian city of Jaigaon. The town was formerly the headquarters of the Bank of Bhutan but was relocated to Thimphu. One of Phuentsholing's most photographed landmarks, the Bhutan Gate is the main entrance and exit to and from India. One of the most popular places in the city is the Amo Chhu Crocodile Breeding Centre. There are several ponds in the center, some of which are full of fish. On the banks of the ponds, you can see endangered Gharials, Mugger Crocodiles, migratory birds, turtles and fish in the water. Another very popular spot is the town's oldest park, Phuentsholing Park. The park is shaded by an abundance of towering eucalyptus and broad-leaf sal trees. The Peeple Drangra viewpoint offers beautiful views of the thriving town of Phuentsholing, the Bengal plains, and Torsa River on a clear day.
