Landscape views around Viðareiði in the Faroe Islands in Denmark (2022)

Viðoy

Viðoy is the most northern island of the Faroe Islands, located to the east of Borðoy and connected to it by a causeway. Its name means wood island, although there are no trees on the island. The name refers to driftwood from Siberia and North America. The island is home to the popular village of Viðareiði and Villingadalsfjall. It is the highest mountain on the island with a peak of 841 meters, making it one of the highest mountains in the archipelago. Cape Enniberg is another great attraction on the island. It is the highest vertical sea cliff in the world at 754 meters. The north and east coasts of the island have been designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International for its importance as a breeding site for seabirds, particularly European Storm Petrels, Atlantic Puffins, Black-legged Kittiwakes, Common Guillemots and Black Guillemots.
