Views of Vestmanna in the Faroe Islands in Denmark (2022)

Streymoy

Streymoy, whose name means "island of currents", is the largest and most populous island in the Faroe Islands. Its capital, Tórshavn, is located on the southeastern coast and its name means Thor's Harbor. The island's northeastern coastline has been designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International for its importance as a breeding site for seabirds, particularly Atlantic Puffins, Northern Fulmars, Great Skuas, European Storm Petrels, European Shags, Blacklegged Kittiwakes and Black Guillemots. The most famous natural attraction on the island is the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs. Tours to the amazing cliffs on the west coast of the island are organized from April to October. Streymoy has 22 villages in total. They range from very small hamlets such as Norðradalur and Syðradalur, with only a few families living there, to the most densely populated area in the archipelago, Tórshavn.
