Kong Oscar Fjord

The gigantic and magnificent Kong Oscar Fjord lies between 72- and 73-degrees north latitude in a large national park on the northeast coast of Greenland. The fjord is some 150 km long and over 20 km wide in places. There are also several tributaries. During an expedition in 1899, A.G. Nathorst named it Konung Oscars Fjord after Oscar II, who was King of Sweden from 1872 to 1907 and of Norway from 1872 to 1905. The fjord is fringed by beautiful snow-capped mountains and has many huge icebergs, as well as a number of glaciers that flow into the fjord.
