Lady Franklin Islands

The Lady Franklin Island is an uninhabited Baffin Island in the Arctic Archipelago of Nunavut. The island is located in the Davis Strait, about 40 km from the Hall Peninsula. It was named by the Arctic explorer Charles Francis Hall in honor of Sir John Franklin's wife, Lady Franklin. After John Franklin disappeared in search of the Northwest Passage, she sponsored or otherwise supported several expeditions to find out his fate. The island is home to an impressive array of bears, caribou, ducks, seals and walruses, as well as Atlantic Puffins and the rare Sabine's Gull. The rocks on the island are among the oldest on Earth, dating back some 2.5 to 4 billion years.
