Greely Fjord

The Greely Fiord is an inlet in the western part of Ellesmere Island, in the Qikiqtaaluk region of Nunavut, in the Arctic Archipelago. The Cañon Fiord and the Agassiz Ice Cap lie to the south. The Borup Fiord lies to the northwest and the Tanquary Fiord to the northeast. Moraines and meltwater channels are marks of the last glaciation boundary that came into contact with the sea around the Greely Fiord and its tributaries. The fjord was named after Adolphus Washington Greely, an American military officer whose Arctic scientific expedition led him to explore a significant area of the Canadian Ellesmere Island and the coast of Greenland, where he set a contemporary record by reaching 83°24′ N. The Quttinirpaaq National Park is located in the vicinity of the fjord, to the north-east.
