Blanley Bay

Blanley Bay is located on Devon Island, which is the largest uninhabited island in the world. The island is situated in Baffin Bay, Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. Devon Island is home to several small mountain ranges, such as the Treuter Mountains, the Haddington Mountains and the Cunningham Mountains. The striking similarity of its surface to that of Mars has caught the interest of scientists. The relatively high altitude and extreme northern latitude of the area support only a small population of Musk Oxen, small birds and mammals. Cape Liddon, not far from Blanley Bay, is an important bird sanctuary, notable for its populations of Black Guillemots and Northern Fulmar. To the north-east of the bay is the Haughton Impact Crater on Devon Island, formed some 39 million years ago when a meteorite about 2 km in diameter struck the forests of the area. This impact left a crater about 23 km in diameter, which had been a lake for millions of years.
