Xaraes Lodge

The Xaraes Lodge is a farm hotel located in the heart of the Pantanal. Nature is overflowing with beauty, transporting us to a totally magical world populated by birds of all colors and songs, as well as mammals, reptiles and insects. Xaraés not only has all the habitats of the southern Pantanal, but the area is also large enough to see populations of many rare species. This is also one of the best places to see the Great Hyacinth Macaws. Around the inn you can also see many species of parakeets, woodpeckers, Caburé Owls, tanagers, japuguaçu, blackbirds and - if there are enough flowers- the flying jewel, the hummingbirds. On the ground or near the ground, the terrestrial inhabitants of our bushes are the Plumed Curassow, Inhambu Chororó and Jaó. Wetlands and higher altitude areas are good habitats for wading birds and herons. Carretőes and João Pinto do Brejo are very curious birds and often show up just to see who is aiming their binoculars at them. Brazil's smallest kingfisher, the Dwarf Kingfisher, can be seen along the rivers. For the patient and persistent observer, sightings of difficult birds such as the Red Soi and the Snipe can be rewarded. Birds of prey often perch in the branches of trees or fly to await their prey. Smoky Hawks, Caramujeiro Hawks and Beautiful Hawks can always be seen. But Xaraés is also a good place for the Black-Legged Hawk, the Sparrow Hawk and the Chilean Eagle.
