Santa Tereza Lodge

The Santa Tereza Lodge, now South Wild Pantanal Lodge is located 2.5 km from the Transpantaneira road, on the forested banks of the wildlife-rich Pixaim River. Organized boat trips take you to see the world's most diverse species of tame and wild kingfishers, hawks, caimans, Capybaras, Agami Herons, Jabiru Storks and jaguars. In the dry season, you can photograph jaguars on the riverbank. The lodge also provides horseback riding, walks on the expertly designed forest trails, research presentations, mammal spotlighting, a star chart for studying the spectacular night sky, and on request, a cattle drive and Brazilian barbecue. The South Wild Pantanal Lodge is the only one in the world with a specially designed observation tower at a Jabiru Stork nest. Access to the 12-meter high, observation tower is via a user-friendly spiral staircase. The tower's top is slightly above the nest level, which is only 16 meters. Specially trained naturalists have been habituating these storks for years, so the birds now completely ignore visitors and calmly perform their most intimate nesting behavior.
