Baia das Pedras

Baia das Pedras is situated in the Nhecolândia region, in the heart of the Pantanal, in the municipality of Aquidauana, 300 km from Campo Grande, the capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The Pantanal is one of the richest biodiversity areas in the world. Located in the heart of the Pantanal, Baía das Pedras recognizes this importance and works to host IBAMA-approved research projects in partnership with international, national and regional NGOs, universities and government agencies. It opens its doors to scientists who come looking for information about animals, for example about their reproduction, habitat and behavior. Studies are under way on the tapir, funded by zoos in the US and Europe; and on the Giant Armadillo, funded by a university in Scotland. Research teams of at least five people spend ten to fifteen days on the farm. Visitors to the farm will be informed about the projects and invited to an evening presentation. They will also have the opportunity to accompany the researchers to check the traps. The Pantanal is vast, and Baía das Pedras supports and encourages the arrival of scientists to the region who want to learn about and help conserve its fauna and flora.
