Mucurubá

Mucurubá is a community in Venezuela, in the state of Mérida, at the foot of the Cordillera Oriental. It lies at an altitude of 2,407 meters above sea level, approximately 32 kilometers from Mérida. Its name derives from the words "muco" and "ruba" from the language spoken by the pre-Columbian inhabitants. The settlement was founded in 1586 by Bartolomé Gil Naranjo. The climate is cool and dry, with temperatures averaging 16.5°C, which is suitable for irrigated cultivation of crops like potatoes, carrots, lettuce, garlic, blackberries, strawberries, peaches and figs. During colonial times, maize was an important crop, which was ground in water mills.
