The Miraflores is the name of one of the three locks that are part of the Panama Canal, and also the name of the small lake that divides these locks from the Pedro Miguel locks upstream. At the Miraflores locks, boats are raised or lowered in two stages to a height of 16,5 meters, allowing them to cross to and from the Pacific Ocean port of Balboa in Panama City. The ships pass under the Bridge of the Americas linking North and South America. There is also a visitor center here, which allows tourists to get a complete picture of how the Miraflores locks work. From the center, binoculars are recommended for viewing the Pedro Miguel locks. It can take more than 30 minutes to view a transit operation at the center.
