Niafounké

Niafunké is a small town along the Niger River in the central Mali region. It is the administrative center of the municipality of Soboundou, and the administrative center of the Niafunké Cercle, an administrative subdivision of the Tombouctou region of Mali. The world-famous capital of the Tombouctou region, ancient Timbuktu, became synonymous with a hard-to-reach destination for 19th century Europeans.
