Herathera

Herathera means hideaway or sanctuary in the Dhivehi language of the Maldives. The island is famous for its untouched natural beauty. Surrounded by a beautiful lagoon and long white sandy beaches, Herathera Island is home to a single resort, Herathera Island Resort. The island is part of Addu City, a city in the Maldives made up of the inhabited islands of Addu Atoll, the southernmost atoll in the archipelago. The city of Addu has 6 districts. These are Hithadhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo. These districts are islands, of course, but they are well linked. Furthermore, Addu Atoll has other uninhabited islands. One of the oldest inhabited atolls in the country, Addu has traces of settlements on Meedhoo Island dating back to 2000 BC. It is said that the original settlers came from the western regions of present-day India, from the states of Gujarat and Bihar.
