Nestled in the magical Lake Malawi National Marine Park, Kasankha Bay is at the heart of where sandy shores meet crystal clear waters, the lake is a paradise for nature and water lovers alike. Kasankha Bay is home to Lake Malawi National Park, which is renowned for its rich biodiversity. The area is a place of outstanding natural beauty, with its islands and clear waters set against the backdrop of the Great African Rift Valley Mountain range. The types of habitats vary from rocky shores to sandy beaches, from forested hillsides to marshes and lagoons. Granite hills rising steeply on the lakeshore and there are numerous sandy bays. Kasankha Bay is important for biodiversity conservation worldwide because of its outstanding diversity of freshwater fish. Endemism is high, and the area is rich in other fauna, including mammals, birds and reptiles. In April 2013, permaculture kitchen gardens and a tree nursery were established in Kasankha village in Kasankha Bay. The aim of the project was to teach farmers how to use previously marginal land for food production and income generation.
