Rinca Island

Rinca is a small island close to the islands of Komodo and Flores. This is one of the three largest islands in the Komodo National Park. It is renowned for its Komodo Dragons, giant lizards up to 3 meters long. Despite popular belief, Rinca Island is home to the largest population of Komodo Dragons, with around 2,000 individuals, more than Komodo Island. The ancient animal can be visited with the help of game rangers, experts with knowledge of the area and the animals around. You can see the Komodo nest, a hole 1-2 meters deep where Komodo Dragons lay their eggs. On guided tours you can meet Komodo Dragons living in the area. It is not recommended to visit in June and July, as this is the mating season for the dragons, during which months they stay in their nests and are difficult to find. The Komodo Dragon co-exists with other animals like wild pigs, water buffalos, Sumatran Deer, monkeys, wild horses and many snakes and birds, which are also found on Rinca. As well as beautiful hills, a soothing savannah and attention-grabbing animals, Rinca is also surrounded by an exotic yellowish-white sandy beach.
