Labuan Bajo

The fishing town of Labuan Bajo is found at the western end of the large island of Flores in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province. The once small fishing village is now a tourist center. Labuan Bajo is the gateway to excursions through the nearby Komodo National Park to Komodo Island and Rinca Island, which are home to the world famous Komodo Dragons. The Labuan Bajo islands offer beautiful natural attractions, including one water destination with underwater views and a variety of fascinating marine life. There are several snorkeling sites in the area, such as Kanawa and Seraya Islands. On Kalong Island, south of Labuan Bajao, every evening thousands of Flying Fox Bats make a spectacular sight. Near Labuan Bajo there are many waterfalls, hiking opportunities and a variety of beaches. Close to the town, only 4 km away, is the Mirror Stone Cave. The caves are named after the walls, which glisten when the morning sun shines through the slit in the roof. The shimmering happens because the cave walls contain salt. In the cave walls, corals and fossils of marine animals have been found, confirming the assumption that the area was underwater at one time. The town has various interesting churches and a mosque, and the whole place is so small that it can be easily traversed in 15 minutes.
