Quinhámel

Quinhamel is a town in Guinea-Bissau, capital of the Biombo region. It is located about 40 km from the capital Bissau. Geographically, Quinhamel is bordered by the Mansoa River to the north and the Petu River to the south, and is located on the island of Bissau. In addition, there are several smaller rivers and canals which are either tributaries of the Mansoa or the Petu. The area is a coastal region of mangrove swamps, rainforest and tangled forest, with annual rainfall exceeding 1000 mm. The interior region has plains dotted with rias. The local economy is based on the traditional production of combed cloths, sugar cane brandy, cashew brandy or honey brandy, as well as fish and seafood. The town also has a small port specializing in loading and unloading seafood and fish.
