Bakingili

The village of Bakingili is located in the southern foothills of Mount Cameroon. The village is known as the gateway to the West Coast region. The area is characterized by evergreen forests with tall, continuous canopies and large trees. Bakingili was founded by a man called Njani Monaga, who came from Bomana with two other people. One of them went to Bokwango and the other to Mbimbia. Legend has it that Bakingili means "someone who comes and never goes back". Currently, three families make up Bakingili: Wo Njungu, Wo Nganga and Wo Ndana. Bakingli Community Forest is a peripheral area of the Mount Cameroon National Park. The lava flows of Mount Cameroon are a tourist attraction in the municipality. Bakingli's climate is influenced by the proximity of the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. There are two distinct seasons. The rainy season lasts from March to October, but it rains regularly throughout the year and the humidity is very high.
