Ragged Point

Ragged Point is a village on the east coast of Barbados, in the Parish of Saint Philip, between Kitridge Bay and Bottom Bay to the south and Skeete Bay, Conset Bay, Congor Bay and Martin Bay to the north. One of the main tourist attractions at Ragged Point in Barbados is East Point Lighthouse. It is an 85-foot-tall coral stone structure that was erected on May 1, 1875. Standing majestically more than 200 feet above sea level, its beam extends some 21 miles. The Lighthouse is located at the easternmost point of the island of Barbados, close to the village of Ragged Point, in the township of Saint Philip. Ragged Point offers stunning views of the rugged coastal landscape along almost the entire east coast of Barbados. In fact, on a clear day you can see as far north as Cove Bay and Pico Tenerife. Off the coast lies Culpepper Island, a small island that can be reached by swimming at low tide. The lighthouse on Ragged Point is one of four lighthouses on the island, the others being on South Point, Needhams Point and Harrison Point. There are several small bays along the coast, but they are not easily accessible and have very strong currents. Swimming in the bays is not allowed, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful view from the top of the cliffs. Locals are often seen fishing in this area.
