Conset Bay

Conset Bay is located on the east coast of Barbados. It is situated near the town of Saint Marks, on the southeast coastline of the Parish of Saint John. This sheltered bay is one of several in the parish. Many fishermen land their catches in this beautiful bay and their activities can be observed from the long jetty jutting out into the Atlantic. The waves in Conset Bay may be calmer than elsewhere on the east coast of Barbados, but the sea is generally not recommended for swimming, perhaps because of the constant fishing activity. In 1996, The Barbados Fishing Authorities reported that Conset Bay was the third largest landing site in Barbados, with 37 vessels using the site and an annual catch of 81 tons. Conset Bay is also popular with recreational fishers. The bay is framed by rugged, towering cliffs, and Conset Point on the edge of the bay is a place of natural and dramatic beauty. The view of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the cliffs from the small beach is truly stunning, yet there are few tourists.
