Khodutka Hot Springs

Khodutkinskiye Hot Springs are located 4 km northwest of Khodutka and Priyomich volcanoes, in the valley of the river Pravaya Khodutka. They are part of the South Kamchatka Nature Park, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. They are made up of a number of springs that form a large lake and the Goryachaya River. The water temperature reaches 49°C uphill, but when the water flows into the Pravaya Khodutka River, its temperature is only 37°C. Along the river and near the springs, many thermal algae grow. The vegetation around the lake quickly turns green, although there is still snow in spring. The unique combination of hot springs, geothermal activity and thermal algae creates an extraordinary ecosystem that is an important habitat for several species of plants and animals that have adapted to the extreme conditions of the hot springs. The area is also home to numerous bird species, including the Steller's Sea Eagle, the White-Tailed Eagle, and the osprey. Facilities for bathing and swimming in the hot springs have been built for tourists, providing an opportunity to relax and unwind in a natural and tranquil environment. Visitors can soak in the warm waters, rejuvenating their bodies and minds, while taking in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding landscape. The hot springs are also believed to have therapeutic properties, making them an attractive destination for those seeking a unique and relaxing experience. In addition to their recreational value, the Khodutkinskiye Hot Springs are also an important site for scientific research. Scientists from around the world come to study the unique geology and ecology of the area.
