Saar

Saar is a town in Bahrain, west of the capital Manama. The Kingdom's northern governorate contains fertile lands that contribute to the lush green environment of the Saar. Agriculture has been the main economic driver of Baharin's growth. The site of a temple known as the "Saar Temple", built during the Dilmun period of Bahrain's history, and believed to have played an important role in the marking of the summer solstice. It was discovered during a survey in 1977 and was unveiled in 1977-1979. It covers an area of about 2.5 hectares. The finds in households include copper hooks, bitumen nodules and a number of shells, including pearl oyster. The copper was mined in Bahrain and the bitumen was imported from Mesopotamian quarries. Small seed pearls were also found during the excavations. Hundreds of seals used to seal packages, bales and jars were found at the Saar site. 48 seals were also found in a related burial site, a unique find in Bahrain. In a single house, four to five seals were found. All the seals date from the early Dilmun style, between 2050 BC and 1800 BC.
