Lubango

Lubango, previously known as Sá da Bandeira, is the capital of the province of Huíla. Located in southern Angola, this city boasts a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it was a major hub for the Portuguese colonial administration. The city's strategic location in the Huíla Plateau, approximately 1,720 meters above sea level, makes it an attractive destination for those seeking a cooler climate amidst the tropical savannas of southern Africa. As the capital of Huíla province, Lubango plays a vital role in the region's economic and cultural development. The city is home to several important institutions, including Mandume ya Ndemufayo University and the Higher Institute of Education Sciences of Huíla. Additionally, Lubango is a major commercial center, with a bustling market where locals sell a variety of goods, including traditional handicrafts, fresh produce, and livestock. Tourists visiting Lubango can explore the city's historic center, which features several colonial-era buildings, including the stunning Cathedral of Lubango, a beautiful example of Portuguese architecture. There is also a Portuguese-style Commercial Hall, an Industrial Hall, and a Secondary School, and like every Portuguese city or town on the mainland and in the Overseas Territories, it has the Portuguese Town Hall. In addition, the city is also surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, with the nearby Tundavala Gap offering panoramic views of the Huíla Plateau.
