Caconda is a town in the province of Huíla. With a rich history dating back to the 19th century, Caconda has evolved into a significant urban center, playing a vital role in the country's economic and cultural development. The town was officially founded in 1857. During the 19th century, Caconda was the most important point of the Portuguese colonial territory in Africa. In the history of zoology, Caconda has a place because the great Portuguese naturalist and explorer José Alberto de Oliveira Anchieta (1833-1897) conducted most of his work in this region. He died in Caconda in 1897, on his way back from an expedition.
