Algiers

Algiers, on the Mediterranean coast, is a blend of modern and traditional architecture and stunning natural beauty. Visitors can discover its rich cultural heritage, Ottoman and French colonial influences, or admire the breathtaking views of the Gulf of Algiers. The city is home to iconic buildings such as the Ketchaoua Mosque, the Algiers National Library and the Algiers Opera House. The city has several museums, such as the National Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Art and the Algiers National Museum of Fine Arts. One of the most beautiful sights in Algiers is the Hamma Botanical Garden, with more than a mile of pedestrian-only paths. The botanical garden is an oasis of peace and tranquility in an otherwise bustling and vibrant city. The Botanic Garden also features a small but interesting zoo, as well as an arboretum with mature native trees. From the ancient streets of the Kasbah to the wild, English-style grounds of the botanical gardens, Algiers offers a range of excellent urban hiking options.
