Lin

Lin is situated on a small peninsula on Lake Ohrid, just south of the Qafë Thanë mountain pass, which is a border-crossing point between Albania and North Macedonia. The charming one-street village of Lin is one of the most picturesque parts of the Albanian side of Lake Ohrid. The village has a mixed population, with both an Orthodox church and a mosque. A notable historical and cultural monument is the ruins of the 6th century Early Christian Basilica and the almost intact mosaic floors, especially in the narthex and side chapels. The floor of the church, which has a triangular floor plan, is characterised by a rich variety of motifs, with a wealth of geometric and floral motifs and impressive animal depictions on the surviving surfaces. A Byzantine temple ruin is located at the settlement of Peshkim, north of the village. At the time of my visit long-long time ago, inhabitants maintained a very traditional lifestyle. Average income was still extremely low and self-sustaining lifestyle was the norm. These difficulties have been contrasted by a magical location: fantastic surrounding landscape and Europe's cleanest lake at that time.
