Valbona Valley National Park

The Valbona Valley National Park is a protected area in northern Albania. It protects parts of the Albanian Alps and the valley and waterfalls of the Valbona River. The park has 54 named mountains, the highest and most important of which is Maja e Jezercës (2694 m). They are characterized by very remote areas with large areas of preserved ecosystems, all of which are primarily pristine, unspoilt quality. This vast pristine ecosystem is the centerpiece of what is known as the Albanian Wonder of the Alps. The largest part of the park is forest, which makes up 89% of the total area, and is home to Brown Bears, Grey Wolves, Lynx, Deer, Roe Deer and Wild Goats. The park's forests are characterized by a predominance of different tree species, with beech, pine and oak predominating. The most important tree species used to be Norway Spruce, and the park is one of the few areas in Albania where this species can be found.
