Butrint

As an expert in global ecotourism, I am interested in visiting as many national parks as I can around the world. When Butrint National Park was established, I specifically went back to this location for the third time. It was previously a pretty historic site, but with the national park's freshwater lakes, wetlands, salt marshes, open plains, reed beds and islands, it has become an extremely important conservation hotspot of the Adriatic coastline. The city is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Albania. It was an ancient Greek polis and later Roman city and the seat of an early Christian bishopric in Epirus. It is located on a hill overlooking the Vivari Channel and is part of the Butrint National Park. On the strength of the immense wealth of cultural, historical and natural value with a considerable history, Butrint was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 and further a National Park in 2000. The scenic lagoon and mountains surrounding Butrin National Park are worth a visit for the views alone, it's a stunning place to be! The ancient city is becoming a popular tourist destination, attracting day-trippers from the nearby Greek holiday island of Corfu.
