Diksam

The Diksam Plateau is a plateau of limestone in Socotra. Within the plateau, in the Firmihin forest, east of Dirhur Canyon, there is the highest density of Dragon's Blood trees on the whole island. The plateau is a vast area situated near the geographical center of Socotra, nestled between the Hajhir Mountains and the coastal plain to the south. At an altitude of around 700 meters above sea level, the plateau is the home of shepherds known as Bedouins, who move from place to place with their flocks. They are scattered across the plateau in a large number of small villages, which reflects the extensive pastoralism upon which the inhabitants rely. The Wadi Dirhu or Daerh is a north-south oriented gorge that drops vertically from the plateau to the valley floor for 700 meters. The wadi is habitat to large populations of Adenium obesum and Dendrosicyos socotranus. The greatest and most widespread population of Dragon's Blood trees forms the landscape character of the Rokeb di Firmihin in the eastern part of the plateau. It covers 540 hectares of land affected by the southwest monsoon and rainfall.
