Lakka

Lakka is a seaside resort town in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra Leone. The town is located about ten miles west of Freetown. The main industries in the town are tourism and fishing. The town is known for its vast beaches, which draw tourists to the there. The beach at Lakka is about 1.5 km long, a golden sandy crescent surrounded by forested hills and lined with coconut trees. It is a wonderful place to explore local life as it is located near Lakka, a southern suburb of Freetown. You can see brightly painted canoes, children playing football or fishermen frying up the day's catch on the barbecue, according to the time of day. People who like swimming will find some places where the current is not too strong, especially at low tide. It is worth walking to the small island at the northern end of the beach, which is accessible on foot even at high tide. Also worth a visit is the Lakka Beach Island Resort, a resort of six huts located on a rocky shelf, close to the beach. The resort is particularly known for its fishing, where you can catch barracuda, mackerel and other large fish.
