Koutenabe

Koutenabe is a village in the north-east of Senegal in the Tambacounda Region. Tambacounda was formerly part of the Mali Empire before borders were created to separate Mali from Senegal. It is the largest of Senegal's 14 regions in physical terms, but its population is sparse and its economy lags behind the rest of the country. The region is known for its rich djembe and dance culture and heritage. Tambacounda's agriculture-based economy is primarily built on cash crops, including cotton and peanuts. In the south of the region, mining plays a role around the town of Kedougou. The region also hosts the Niokolo-Koba National Park, the biggest reserve in West Africa, which supports the other pillar of Tambacounda's economy, namely tourism.
