Ruzhintsi

The village of Ruzhintsi is located in the north-western part of Bulgaria, in the province of Vidin. It is the administrative center of the municipality of Ruzhintsi, of the same name, in the south-eastern part of Vidin province. The Lom River, a tributary of the Danube in northwest Bulgaria, flows through the village and flows into the right bank of the river 1 km east of the town of Lom. The village was probably founded in the 14th century, the village church was built in 1852 together with a monastic school. The area is mainly agricultural. The Dobri Dol Monastery, founded in the 11th century, is a landmark in the region. According to the legend of the place: one of the daughters of the leader of Pleven, Osman Pasha, was blind. Her father tried to cure her in every way he could, but years passed and he did not succeed. Then he met an old Odalisque and told her of his pain, and she said, "You will go down to the valley where there are big trees by the spring and she will be cured. But there you promise to do good if your daughter is cured...". The sad father sent his blind daughter to the beautiful place where she was cured. Pasha asked her how she should express her gratitude and thoughts. He left two large sacks of white coins to build a temple there. A small wooden chapel was built on the beautiful site, which served the people who came there for healing waters for many years.
